Summer is really here! Temps in the 90’s in the North Country. Wow!! But the big girls are biting and going deep. Time to battle the wind and catch them while they stay in their summer haunts. This weekend I had two trips that produced 40 Smallies over 3.5lbs and a dozen over four. Most of the time we didn’t have to move the boat. Some of the keys: Current..find little wind blown areas that create a funnel effect causing a current..like bridges, jetties or long rocky points. Another area, short sharp drops just a couple feet from say 17 to 19 feet, also look for clumps of bait in mid depths with 45 degree lines on your electronics. Use Drop shots and shakey heads. Even though your in deep water throw a top water or crank a swim bait just under the surface, dip the tail in chartreuse. In the Ti area look for deep weed lines or wood. Any piece of wood: pitch a jig on it!
